Pateley Bridge - North Yorkshire Market Towns
Home Market Towns (A-L) Market Towns (M-Z)

Located in Nidderdale – an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – Pateley Bridge has long been the motivation for many artistic, written, film and TV productions.

One of the main features of the town is its steep winding High Street. England’s oldest sweet shop is to be found here, and according to some, the best butchers in Yorkshire. Pateley Bridge, along with its neighbour Bewerley, has twice won the Britain in Bloom competition.

In times gone by the town’s economy and its prosperity came from leadmining, quarrying and flax, all now feature in the Nidderdale Museum. The Nidderdale Show is considered to be one of the country’s finest agricultural shows.

Other attractions close by include How Stean Gorge, a spectacular limestone gorge known as Yorkshire’s Little Switzerland; Stump Cross Caverns and Brimham Rocks.
